Park Slope Brownstone
It sounds impossible to pair an open, functional kitchen with a grand, formal dining room, but that’s what this family needed. By connecting the two with oversized double doors (one pockets, one pivots), the kitchen can be opened to the dining room most days or closed for formal dining. Downstairs, we rebuilt the extension as an au pair's suite and cantilevered a deck beyond its small roof to gain enough room for outdoor dining. The decking is grated, though, to bring light to the garden-level playroom.
